I often use an indirect for children or older folk/ people in wheelchairs if they cannot reach the slit lamp for 90d, it is less intimidating for them than having my face stuck a few mm from their face doing direct. If you use a small aperture you can see quite well with average pupil size, however no good with small pupils at all.
