The idea behind it is it’s the best coated lens they do and in interest of giving best service possible you should always recommend the best product. Of course the truth behind it is px will usually go with Optom recommended product so they want Optom to sell from the room. They give 25 mins to refract, examine, interpret fields and look at retinal images and then want you to have a 5-10 min discussion on recommendations with a 3 way handover. I think they’ll achieve this when they give 40 min appointments. Until then they will have Optoms who feel berated and will likely leave unhappy with the pressure – or more worryingly might be tempted to reduce some clinical aspect of test to leave more time for recommendations.
