I have been working for BOOTS OPTICIANS quite regularly for the last 2 or 3 years. I do not like the idea of wearing uniform and even less if I have to pay for it. If we agreed to comply with that, then we should have a different uniform for each company we would work for. I DO NOT WEAR any uniform but I dress professionally and wear suit, tie and smart shoes. I have seen locums wearing chinos and informal shoes and I think that is what the company does not like. In my own experience, I have never had any comment regarding the way I dress or why I do not wear the uniform. In fact, with that uniform people look more like dental technicians rather than Opticians. Young children can be terrified expecting at any point to get an injection or a needle.
Most of the locum opticians I have worked with at BOOTS DO NOT WEAR the uniform.
